Qibla direction for PSAA students
Use these bearings to align your compass or phone toward the Kaaba. Most Australian cities face west-northwest; fine-tune with your city's degree value.
Calibrate your compass, keep away from metal, and face the Qibla with confidence.
Angles are initial bearings from city centres toward the Kaaba (21.4225°N, 39.8262°E).
Live heading
Compass to Qibla
This compass uses your phone's heading plus your location to point to Qibla-no need to face north. If location or motion access is blocked, it falls back to Melbourne.
Quick checklist
Get an accurate direction
- Calibrate your phone compass (figure-8) and enable location.
- Set compass to true north (not magnetic) if your app supports it.
- Step away from metal objects, cars, AC units, or elevators.
- Face west-northwest and align to your city's bearing.
- Outdoors or near a window is more reliable than deep indoors.
Backup options
If your compass is unreliable
- Use a physical compass and the same bearings listed above.
- Open the Google Maps link above, draw a line from your spot to the Kaaba, and align to that heading.
- Ask a nearby mosque or prayer room for their Qibla alignment.
- If unsure, face generally west-northwest; intention matters.
Device note
Best on mobile
The live compass uses phone motion and heading sensors. Laptops and desktops don't expose these readings, so for the most accurate Qibla alignment, open this page on your mobile device and enable the compass there.
